Smashbox Cover Shot Palettes - Review

Smashbox have been grinding hard on their eye shadow game, guys. I got my hands on the whole Cover Shot x Shay collection this holiday and every single palette is a pigmented color-filled pressed powder adventure. Smashbox and Shay Mitchell partnered on this series and overall, I really love them. Read on for more and as always, you can shop the look below if you fancy!

*Thanks to Smashbox for sending me these products to try out. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I usually run to my Too Faced or Urban Decay palettes for most of my eye shadow needs but I have to say, Smashbox have excelled in this collection. They had previously sent me another Matte eye shadow palette in their series which I found underwhelming in terms of pigmentation and hold throughout the day. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this but I think it’s a real improvement on previous efforts. The collection has 7 wonderful (and very different) palettes, each with 8 shades.

Things I loved:
– They’re long wearing and after having used them for about 3 weeks now, they have very little fall-out from the eye lid.
– Each little palette is thin and easy to just drop in a purse and/or pack in a suitcase (my life lately, lol!).
– The colors in each set are so different, you really do get a huge variety of shades so you can create virtually any look you want. If there’s a palette that doesn’t quite float your boat, doesn’t match your skin tone etc or is just not for you, then it’s the perfect little gift for a friend!

Things to consider:

– There’s a pretty good mirror inside, you have to be quite close to your face in order for it not to be a little distorted.
– The collection doesn’t come with any brushes included for on the go (the powder Contour Kit for example, does comes with a mini brush which is so handy).
– Some of the shades in the palettes are already in other Smashbox staple palettes. The Matte Palette, for example, has almost all shades that I already own in another Smashbox palette.

My favorite palette picks:

Softlight
Golden Hour
Metallic
Ablaze

These make perfect gifts for the holidays with a decent price point of $29! Have you tried them yet? You can shop them below if you fancy! Let me know what you thought on Instagram or Facebook <3

A little about me…

Hello there! I’m Ana Free, s’nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by my lifestyle and mommy blog! I’m mama to a gorgeous baby girl called Zoe as well as a four-legged rescue pooch called Indie and wifey to an Argentinian music producer hunk by the name of Rodrigo (but since that’s too long I always call him Rod haha). I love music, writing and singing songs, traveling, doing my makeup, taking photographs and spending time with my family. The craziest thing I’ve ever done is skydive and the most embarrassing was probably when I peed in protest on the floor in ballet as a child because the teacher wouldn’t let me go to the bathroom (seriously, when a 6 year old says they need to go, you gotta let ’em)!

As with most creatives, it seems I have a million and one passions and this space is where I get to write, share, ramble and post whatever comes to mind in my world. It’s really just all things casual, travels, mama+baby, fashion, makeup, style and me.
